The hk prize is an award to recognize and celebrate outstanding works that have been made in Hong Kong. The winner is selected by a panel of judges from among all candidates. The prizes are awarded annually to individuals or teams who have demonstrated scientific excellence, technological innovation, and societal impact through their research work. The winners will receive a trophy and cash prize. The prizes can also be used to fund research or development projects. The hk prize is one of the largest science and technology awards in Asia.
The BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE Board is the highest decision-making body of the award, consisting of a Review Committee, a Compliance Oversight Team and a Secretariat. The Board is responsible for reviewing and interpreting the articles of the Charter; suggesting important scientific research fields for THE PRIZE; appointing members of the Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team; setting requirements for nominating experts; and deciding on the final review results.
A panel of scientists will select the winners, who will then be presented with the prizes during an awards ceremony. Each winning candidate will receive HKD 2,000,000, a certificate, and a trophie. The award is open to all fields of science and technology, including artificial intelligence and robotics, life and health, new materials and energy, advanced manufacturing, and fintech. No more than five people can be nominated for each award field per year.
Those who are nominated for the award will undergo an independent, objective evaluation process by a panel of scientists. The panel will assess the candidates’ research achievements, their transformation into practical applications, and the societal or economic value created by the inventions. The selection procedure will be carried out according to the award’s rules and regulations.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony held each year. The awards ceremony will be attended by representatives of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and sponsoring agencies, as well as academics and celebrities. Past awardees include top-grossing comedian Michael Hui and Hong Kong’s first female astronaut Carrie Lam.
In addition to the prize money, the winners will also be given a chance to showcase their work at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks. They will have the opportunity to work with business partners and investors in the industry to develop their technologies further.
The hk prize is part of an ongoing effort to promote Hong Kong as an international hub for innovation and science. This is especially true in the medical and healthcare sectors, where there are many opportunities for collaboration. Several major hospitals and research centers are located in the city, and there is a wide range of training programs available for young scientists.
Thousands of people will be given the chance to win prizes worth HK$4 million on this year’s New Year’s Eve. The lucky draw is open to both locals and visitors and includes round-trip airline tickets from Cathay Pacific, supermarket vouchers, iPhones, and luxury hotel stays.
