Hong Kong provides a robust and trusted environment for data centres to operate. Its strong support for pillar industries such as financial services & insurance, trading and logistics and emerging service industries like high frequency stock trading and e-commerce generate great demand for secure data centre facilities and services. Moreover, free flow of information with no censorship and adequate protection of personal data privacy provide the ideal platform for global business operations.
Hong Kong’s data protection laws are among the most advanced in the world. The Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, which has been in force since 1996, sets out comprehensive rules governing the collection, processing, use and transfer of personal data. Its stringent requirements ensure that personal data is protected from unauthorized access, disclosure or loss.
Personal data is defined as any information relating directly or indirectly to an individual, from which it is practicable to identify the individual. The PDPO stipulates that any person who collects personal data may not use or disclose it for any other purpose without the consent of the individual. The consent given must be in writing and clearly state the purpose of the collection. It must also be valid for future uses.
The HK$ 48 starter and HK$ 98 plan both allow data usage in Macau and mainland China without speed throttling but the priority of network resources will be lower for these users and data service experience may be affected. The HK$ 338 Mainland China SIM has 8GB of data for a year in Mainland China and a separate roaming allowance from the rest of the package, but voice and SMS are not supported.
