The summer in Hong Kong can be brutal. Its blazing sun and insufferable humidity can leave you drenched from head to toe in sweat the moment you step out of your house. The best way to cool off is with a refreshing swim in one of Hong Kong’s top pools, which also offer some of the city’s most breathtaking views.
In a city full of skyscrapers, a pool on the rooftop might be the most obvious choice. However, many of these swimming spots offer a much more unique experience, such as the pool at the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong, which is located on the 118th floor in the tallest building in the city and is said to be the world’s highest indoor infinity pool.
Besides offering a stunning view, these pools also provide a host of health benefits. Studies have shown that regular swimming reduces stress, improves depression and boosts energy levels. In addition, it is a great low-impact workout and great for people of all ages. So what are you waiting for? Find your nearest pool and start swimming!
Some of the hottest swimming spots in Hong Kong have been around for decades. For example, the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park Swimming Pool in Sai Ying Pun was built in 1971, becoming the first public swimming pool in the New Territories. Many of the municipal pools in the city’s crowded high-rise buildings were built in the 1960s and 1970s, often funded by the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club.
The latest trend is for a pool with a jaw-dropping view. For example, the Kennedy Town Swimming Complex designed by Terry Farrell and Partners took eight years to complete, but when it opened earlier this year it became a stunning sight along Victoria Harbour. The pool is made of zinc, which was chosen to minimize glare and maintain its color. It is topped with a translucent tensile membrane provided by Birdair, and its roof is insulated with an aerogel blanket supplied by Shanghai Taiyo Kogyo Corporation, a sister company of Birdair.
If you want to take a dip in one of these pools, be sure to bring your swimming suit and prepare to enjoy the view! These pools can get crowded, so be sure to arrive early to ensure a spot. And don’t forget to bring a towel and sunscreen!
While most of Hong Kong’s outdoor pools will be closed this summer due to staffing issues, some hotels have their own stunning pools. In fact, the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong boasts the world’s highest indoor infinity pool and is a popular destination for both locals and travelers.
